Bengaluru’s New Gowri-Ganesha Fest Guidelines

Ahead of the Gowri-Ganesha festival on September 7, Bengaluru city police has introduced a long list of security protocols and guidelines aimed at maintaining law and order during the celebrations. During the festival, Ganesha idols are installed across the city and immersion processions are conducted on different days.

Here are the key guidelines issued for Ganesha idol installations and related events in Bengaluru:

Key Guidelines for Ganesha Idol Installations:

Permissions Required:

    • Organisers must obtain permissions from local police stations and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) before installing idols and constructing pandals or shamiyanas in public spaces.
    • Consent from property owners and police is mandatory for installing idols in disputed locations.

    Sound Restrictions:

      • Use of loudspeakers is restricted from 6 am to 10 pm, considering the impact on senior citizens, schoolchildren, and the general public.
      • DJs and high-volume sound systems are strictly prohibited.

      Safety and Security Measures:

        • Two responsible individuals from each organising committee must be present 24×7 at the installation site to prevent any untoward incidents.
        • Installation of CCTV cameras and display of emergency contact numbers are mandatory.
        • Fire extinguishers must be available at the venue.
        • The use of cooking fuels such as wood, kerosene, or stoves is prohibited around idol installation sites.

        Immersion Processions:

          • Organisers must issue identification badges, T-shirts, or caps to volunteers for better management during immersion processions.

          Environmental and Legal Compliance:

            • Organisers must adhere to environmental guidelines set by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board.
            • Installing flexes, boards, and banners is prohibited as per Karnataka High Court directives.

            Traffic and Public Access:

              • Installations must not obstruct public or vehicular traffic, especially on busy roads.

              Prevention of Illegal Activities:

                • Illegal collection of funds for idol installations and related events is strictly prohibited, with legal action to be taken against violators.

These measures aim to ensure public safety, maintain order, and protect the environment during Ganesha idol installations and related festivities in Bengaluru.
