The women’s team for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, which begins on October 24, has been revealed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host all three games.
Harmanpreet Kaur has been retained for the forthcoming ODIs, which also act as a warm-up for the 50-over World Cup next year. Kaur has been the target of criticism on social media for her captaincy after India’s early elimination from the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
Kaur’s deputy will remain Smriti Mandhana, who had an inconsistent performance in the T20 World Cup.
India’s squad has four players without caps.
The selectors have also announced the inclusion of four uncapped players in the squad, including Tejal Hasabnis, Sayali Satgare, Priya Mishra and Saima Thakor. The quartet, who were part of the India A squad in Australia recently, have been rewarded for their impressive performances.
Wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh will be unavailable for the series due to her 12th standard board exams. All-rounder Pooja Vastrakar has been rested, while leg-spinner Asha Sobhana was unavailable for selection after suffering an injury during the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Uma Chetry, the wicketkeeper-batter from Assam, who has played four T20Is so far, could make her ODI debut in the New Zealand series.
