According to The Jerusalem Post, which cites Turkish and Arab media sources, Asma al-Assad, the wife of ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, has filed for divorce and stated her wish to return to the United Kingdom.
Asma al-Assad is unhappy with her life in Moscow, where the Assads have lived in exile, according to the story. According to reports, Asma has filed to a Russian court for special permission to leave the country; Russian officials are presently reviewing her case.
Asma al-Assad, a dual British-Syrian citizen, was born in London in 1975 to Syrian parents. Before going into investment banking, she earned degrees in French literature and computer science from King’s College London. In December 2000, Asma and Bashar al-Assad were married.
The three children of the marriage are Karim, Zein, and Hafez. According to reports, since the start of the Syrian revolt, Asma has attempted to leave her home country and live in London with her kids.
