Ayurveda benefits Animal, Plant as well as Human life imbibing environment: Sarbananda Sonowal

During a press conference today at the media centre, Union Minister of Ayush and Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal revealed a month-long celebration campaign for India’s 8th National Ayurveda Day. India honours Lord Dhanvantari, the deity of Ayurveda, by celebrating Ayurveda Day. It also falls around Dhanteras, when people pray to the Lord for his blessings on good health for themselves and others.

Speaking to the media, the Union Minister emphasised the “Jan Sandesh, Jan Bhagidhari, and Jan Andolan for Jan Arogya aspect of Ayurveda, and said,” For the 8th Ayurveda, the Ministry of Ayush intends to explore potential of Ayurveda in promoting wellbeing of not only human being, but also of environment, plants, animals, etc. in addition to wellbeing of people. The chosen theme is “Ayurveda for One Health” as a result.

The focus of Ayurveda Day in 2023 will be “Ayurveda for One Health,” with the tagline “Ayurveda for everyone on every day,” emphasising the interface between humans, animals, plants, and the environment. This theme is in line with the theme of India’s G20 Presidency, “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.”

Shri Sarbananda Sonowal further elaborated on the whole government approach of the month long celebrations and highlighted the efforts made so far. “India under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi believes in the Principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. By capitalizing the potential of Ayurveda, the science of holistic healing and healthy living, a revolution can be brought in the field of healthcare to address the concerns of One Health.”, He said.

To educate students, farmers, and the public about Ayurveda, a month-long festival has been organised for the entire country of India. The 8th Ayurveda Day this year is observed on November 10, 2023. Every year, to address various health challenges through Ayurveda, the Ministry of Ayush selects a new theme for Ayurveda Day. Millions of people across the nation are reached by several programmes on the chosen topic. This aids in raising public awareness of the health problem and the potential contribution of Ayurveda to its prevention and treatment.

Shri Sarbananda Sonowal reiterated that,” The theme has been selected with focus on promoting Agro-Ayurveda, promoting health by empowering and encouraging people for self-participation, and enthusing professionals for harnessing potential of Ayurveda. It involves a spectrum of areas focusing on sustainable agriculture, human, animal, plant, forest, and aquaculture health, food safety, etc. The theme is focused on three main fields: Ayurveda for Farmers, Ayurveda for Students and Ayurveda for Public.

A total of 12,500 Ayush Health & Wellness Centres have been approved under NAM, of which 8095 are already open, according to Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush. The month-long Ayurveda campaign would include lectures for students about public awareness, medical camps, exhibitions or mini-expos at ayurveda institutes, and dissemination of research study results.

The Ministry of Ayush’s Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Science (CCRAS), which has 30 units distributed across the nation, will serve as the coordinating body for the Ayurveda Day programmes in 2023.
