Ayodhya Sets New World Record, Lights 22 Lakh Diyas on Diwali Eve

The temple city, which is situated on the Saryu River’s bank, shattered its own world record on Diwali eve.

On Saturday, Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh celebrated Deepotsav with great pomp and circumstance, illuminating its ghats with thousands of clay lamps.

Ayodhya’s 51 ghats saw the simultaneous lighting of about 22.23 lakh diyas, setting a new Guinness World Record.

After Yogi Adityanath’s government was formed in 2017, Ayodhya started celebrating Deepotsav. Approximately 51,000 diyas were lit in that year, and 4.10 lakh were lit in 2019.

More than 6 lakh earthen lights were lit in 2020, and over 9 lakh in 2021.

Over 17 lakh diyas were lit throughout Ram ki Pairi’s ghats in 2022. Nevertheless, the record was set at 15,76,955 by the Guinness Book of World Records, which only included diyas that were burning for five minutes or more.

Earlier in the day, a procession was held in advance of the Deepotsav celebrations in Ayodhya, which featured eighteen tableaux centred around the Ramayana, the Ramcharitmanas, and several societal themes.
