Ashish Nehra Reveals Why He’s Avoiding India’s Coaching Role

Ashish Nehra, the head coach of Gujarat Titans, has explained why he’s not interested in becoming the head coach of the Indian cricket team, despite his impressive coaching record.

Nehra guided the Gujarat Titans to victory in their debut IPL season and led them to another final in the following year. His success and leadership have been widely praised. When Rahul Dravid stepped down from the Indian head coach position, Nehra did not apply for the job. He said the main reason is his family. As a father of young children, he does not want to spend nine months traveling away from them.

In an interview with Sports Tak, Nehra shared, “I haven’t thought about it. My kids are young. I’m very happy where I am. I am not in the mood to travel for nine months.” Nehra praised Gautam Gambhir, who has taken over as the new head coach of the Indian team.

He believes Gambhir’s passion and experience will bring positive changes to the team. Nehra noted that Gambhir’s approach and personality will remain the same, and he’s excited to see how Gambhir performs in his new role.

Gambhir will start his tenure with the Sri Lanka tour, which includes three T20Is and three ODIs. Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate are joining Gambhir’s coaching staff for this tour. Gambhir previously had a successful stint as a mentor with Kolkata Knight Riders.
