Arogya Manthan Celebrates 5 Years of Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY and 2 Years of Digital Mission

The most significant government welfare programme currently in place in India is called Ayushman Bharat because it enables the poor to receive the greatest care, on par with the wealthy, something that was previously impossible. At the opening ceremony of Arogya Manthan, which was conducted to commemorate the five-year anniversary of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) and the two-year anniversary of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), Prof. SP Singh Baghel, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, made this statement.

The inaugural event of the National Health Authority (NHA) and Ayushman Bharat (ABDM) was held on 25th and 26th September 2023 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The event was attended by various officials from various sectors, including Shri Dhan Singh Rawat, Minister for Health, Uttarakhand, Dr. V K Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog, Shri Sudhansh Pant, Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research, and Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology.

Awards were given to states for effective implementation of PM-JAY and ABDM under various categories, such as gender equity service delivery, efficient grievance redressal, and highest number of treatments. Kerala, Meghalaya, and Puducherry won awards in terms of highest number of treatments and Gender Equity in Service Delivery. AIIMS, Delhi received the award for the facility that generated the most number of ABHA Scan and Share tokens.

The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar, highlighted the benefits accruing to the most vulnerable and poorest communities of the country and urged Delhi, Odisha, and West Bengal to join the AB-PMJAY scheme.

Dr. V K Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog, emphasized the need for healthcare policies to be mindful of the timelines under Sustainable Development Goals, encourage private sector participation, and strive to make the most vulnerable sections of society healthier and stronger.

Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, Uttarakhand Health Minister, stated that PM-JAY ensures the poor have access to quality healthcare with guaranteed assurance of up to Rs. 5 lakh per family. Shri Sudhansh Pant, Union Health Secretary, noted that around 60% of the amount has been used for tertiary care hospitalization, with 48% of hospitalisations being women beneficiaries.

A National Health Authority Annual report and Best Practices and Innovations 2022-23 from different states and UTs for PM-JAY and ABDM were also launched at the event.
