On Wednesday, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, professed confidence in the state’s ability to surpass all other states in the nation in its production of green energy.
After laying the cornerstone for three renewable pumped storage power projects that will generate 5,314 MW of electricity in the Nandyal district, the chief minister told the authorities at his camp office in Tadepalli that these projects were environmentally beneficial and would lessen reliance on fossil fuels.
Jagan laid the cornerstone for the following projects: a 2,300 MW solar power project to be built by Greenko at Junuthala village in Owk mandal; 700 MW solar and 314 MW wind power plants to be built by AM Green Energy at Kandikayapalle village in Panyam mandal; and 1000 MW solar and wind power projects to be built by Ecoren Energy at Muddavaram village in Bethamcherla mandal.
According to the chief minister, these businesses would invest $10,350, $4500, and $11,000, respectively, and would thereby generate employment chances for 2,300, 1,000, and 2,000 people.
In addition, he released a white paper on the state’s green hydrogen investment potential. For a total of 41,000 MW, 37 locations have been chosen to commence pump storage units, and 29 projects totaling 33,240 MW have had feasibility studies completed.
Projects to generate 20,900 MW are ready for construction, while companies were given the go-ahead to start work on projects to generate 16,180 MW.
He claimed that “pump storage power projects will help us produce power during peak hours and usher in a green energy revolution that will control the world in the future, and the state will become part of the green energy revolution,” adding that once these projects are finished, they will help Andhra Pradesh become number one in green energy.
In the presence of the chief minister, the state-run Andhra Pradesh power generating corporation (APGenco) and National Hydro-Electric Power Corporation (NHPC) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to advance pumped storage power projects.
According to the MoU, the NHPC will install 1000 MW and 950 MW pump storage units in Yaganti and Kapalapadu, respectively, with a joint expenditure of 10,000 crore. 2,000 people will have jobs due to these units.
In three additional locations for which feasibility studies are in progress, “the two public sector units will also set up pump storage power units worth 2750 MW,” Jagan said.
According to him, the businesses will also give residents a royalty of Rs. 1 lakh for each MW and pay farmers Rs. 30,000 per acre per year with a price increase of 5% every two years in exchange for donating their land.
“The State already generates 8,999 MW of wind and solar energy. Farmers will continue to receive free power throughout the day for another 25 to 30 years thanks to the arrangement with Solar Energy Corporation of India to purchase power at a cost of $2.49 per unit.
The meeting was attended by the energy minister P Ramachandra Reddy, the finance minister B Rajendranath, the deputy chief minister for endowments K Satyanarayana, the chief secretary K S Jawahar Reddy, among others.
