Punjab on High Alert Following Pahalgam Terror Attack; Enhanced Security Measures Implemented
Punjab has been placed on high alert following the Pahalgam terror attack, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann convening a high-level security meeting in Chandigarh on Wednesday. After the meeting, Mann assured the public that security had been tightened in the state, stating, “It is our duty to keep Punjab safe.” He condemned the attack, highlighting that terrorists showed no regard for religion, as they asked victims' names before executing them.
Mann also mentioned that efforts were underway to safely bring back tourists from Punjab stranded in Pahalgam, with ongoing communication with J&K authorities. Authorities are also coordinating with J&K student associations to ensure their safety.
Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, stated that security measures have been bolstered around educational institutes, particularly those with a significant number of J&K students. Enhanced patrolling and intensified checks are being carried out at sensitive locations, including religious sites and public areas, to ensure public confidence. Intelligence coordination has also been strengthened.
