Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a bilateral meeting with Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on the margins of the BIMSTEC summit Friday, ThePrint has learnt. Modi is also likely to meet the prime minister of Nepal K.P. Oli and the head of the junta in Myanmar Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. 

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Bangkok for a two-day trip, where he will hold key bilateral meetings, including his first with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Muhammad Yunus. Ties between India and Bangladesh have been strained since Sheikh Hasina’s ouster in August 2024, with concerns over attacks on minorities and border issues.

Modi will also meet Nepal’s PM KP Sharma Oli, who is under pressure due to pro-Monarchy protests. Oli’s recent visit to China before India marked a shift from tradition. Additionally, Modi will hold talks with Myanmar’s junta leader, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, as India continues its humanitarian efforts following Myanmar’s 7.7-magnitude earthquake.

Modi will also participate in BIMSTEC summit events before departing for a three-day visit to Sri Lanka at the invitation of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. He expressed optimism about strengthening regional ties through these engagements.
