Michelle Obama Breaks Silence on Inauguration Absence and Divorce Rumors

Speculation over Barack and Michelle Obama’s marriage surged on social media after the former First Lady chose not to attend Donald Trump’s second inauguration. Months later, Michelle addressed the rumors on her podcast IMO with Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson, sharing her reasons for skipping the event and reflecting on the backlash.

“‘No’ is a full sentence,” she wrote on Instagram, emphasizing the importance of setting boundaries and protecting one’s peace. Michelle explained that her decision was misinterpreted, with many assuming marital trouble. “People couldn’t imagine I said no for any other reason,” she said, noting the emotional weight of choosing her well-being over public expectations.

She shared that to avoid giving in to pressure, she deliberately told her team not to prepare a dress. “If I don’t have an outfit ready, I can’t be tempted to go,” she said.

Social media rallied behind her decision. “Michelle, you do you,” one user commented. Others praised her example of self-care and empowerment.

During the episode with actress Taraji P. Henson, the discussion focused on burnout, boundaries, and healing, especially for Black women.
