Mediation: A Holistic Solution for Family Disputes, Says Madras High Court Justice

Mediation offers a comprehensive approach to resolving family disputes, fostering reconciliation, and repairing strained relationships, according to Madras High Court Justice D Bharatha Chakravarthy during a symposium on mediation as an effective legal solution for conflicts.

Speaking alongside retired Justice K Kannan and advocate Pushya Sitaraman on the topic of ‘Mediation as the Best Legal Solution,’ Justice Chakravarthy highlighted that mediation's unique value lies in its ability to restore relationships and holistically settle issues. He emphasized that mediation is mandatory before pursuing litigation under commercial dispute laws.

Justice Kannan, an experienced mediator, recommended mediation for resolving family conflicts over property or relationships, urging that it be pursued before issues become toxic. “When hearts open, mediation becomes much easier,” he said.

The symposium featured multiple panel discussions, including one on mediating family relationship disputes with advocates Geetha Ramaseshan, Uma Ramanathan, and Revathi Mohan, and another on inheritance and family business disputes with R Murari, Chitra Narayanan, and R Vijayakrishnan.
