Medanta Technician Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault of Flight Attendant on Ventilator

A technician working at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, identified as Deepak Kumar, was arrested on Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting a flight attendant while she was on a ventilator. The woman, a 46-year-old from West Bengal, had come to Gurugram for airline training and lodged a complaint on April 14 at the Sadar police station. Gurugram Police launched an intensive investigation and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under DCP Dr Arpit Jain.

Deepak Kumar, 25, hails from Muzaffarpur, Bihar. He had been employed at Medanta’s ICU for five months, having completed a degree in Operation Theatre Technology. He allegedly assaulted the woman while on duty.

Police identified the accused through hospital CCTV footage and staff questioning. Over 800 cameras were reviewed and 50 staff members interrogated. Eight teams participated in the probe.

According to the victim, the incident took place on April 6. She was in a semi-conscious state when a man digitally raped her in the ICU while two nurses were present but did nothing. She had been admitted on April 5 after falling ill from a swim at her hotel.
