Manoj Kumar vs Om Shanti Om: The Controversial Scene That Sparked Legal Action

In 2007, Farah Khan’s *Om Shanti Om* hit the screens, marking Deepika Padukone’s debut alongside Shah Rukh Khan. While the film gained widespread attention, a particular scene offended veteran actor Manoj Kumar. The scene showed Shah Rukh’s character sneaking into a film premiere using Manoj Kumar’s pass and not being recognized due to his signature face-covering gesture.

Kumar demanded the scene be removed, and the filmmakers agreed. Shah Rukh apologized, acknowledging he should have informed the actor earlier.

However, the issue resurfaced in 2013 when the film was re-released in Japan with the controversial scene intact. This time, Manoj Kumar filed a lawsuit against Shah Rukh Khan and Eros International, seeking Rs 100 crore in damages. His lawyer accused the filmmakers of going back on their word and showing disregard for Kumar’s dignity, especially after a court order in 2008 had instructed the permanent removal of the scene.

Disheartened by the lack of accountability, Manoj Kumar eventually withdrew the legal case, stating that the process failed to instill a sense of responsibility in the filmmakers.
