On April 16, 2025, South Korean police raided the office of former president Yoon Suk Yeol and his security team as part of a growing criminal investigation. Yoon had declared martial law in December and deployed armed soldiers to parliament, later reversing his decision. Lawmakers swiftly impeached him, but he resisted arrest for weeks. In January, following a tense standoff, he became the first sitting South Korean president to be arrested, though he was later released on procedural grounds.

Authorities executed a search and seizure warrant at both the presidential office and residence. Encrypted phone servers were confiscated, and raids extended to the office of Yoon's security team and the home of his chief of security. This is part of a probe into possible obstruction during attempts to enforce an arrest warrant. Yoon had been sheltered in his compound, which was fortified by loyal guards with barricades and barbed wire. Police also retrieved CCTV footage related to a separate case involving former interior minister Lee Sang-min. Yoon, facing insurrection charges, appeared in court Monday, with his next hearing set for April 21.
