FIR Filed Against Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda Over Jaat Scene Allegedly Hurting Christian Sentiments
An FIR has been filed against actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, and three others over a scene in the film Jaat, which allegedly offends the sentiments of the Christian community, police said on Friday.
According to authorities, the complaint was lodged by Christian community leader Viklav Gold, who claimed the movie—released on April 10—contains scenes that show disrespect toward Jesus Christ and Christian religious customs. He also questioned the timing of the film's release, pointing out its proximity to Good Friday, observed this year on April 18.
Sanjeev Kumar, Station House Officer (SHO) at Jalandhar Cantt police station, where the FIR was registered on Wednesday evening, said the accused include actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, and Vineet Kumar, as well as the film’s director Gopichand and producer Naveen.
"The FIR has been filed under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings by insulting religion or religious beliefs," the SHO stated.
