As part of its ongoing crackdown on “illegal” Bangladeshi immigrants in the capital, the Delhi Police has deployed multiple teams to inspect shelter homes, railway tracks, abandoned buildings, DDA parks, and scrap dealer sites. 

Authorities are also talking to Resident Welfare Associations and Market Welfare Associations to gather enough information.

The arrests took place after Police received intelligence regarding a group of Bengali-speaking individuals seeking accommodation in informal housing in the Peeragarhi camp area, a senior official said.

“A police team observed three individuals heading towards the Peeragarhi camp, concealed behind the Kali Mata Mandir, and conversing in Bengali. Their suspicious behavior drew attention, prompting officers to intercept and question them,” the official added.

Initially, the three claimed to be residents of West Bengal merely passing through. However, under thorough interrogation, they disclosed their true identities. The individuals were identified as Safruddin (36) and Ibrahim (38) from Kurigram in northern Bangladesh, along with Sorab (46) from Barguna in southern Bangladesh.
