The death toll from the Myanmar earthquake could reach 10,000, with 694 people killed and over 1,600 injured.

According to Myanmar's military government, the earthquake has so far claimed 694 lives and injured nearly 1,600.  China, India, Bangladesh, and Thailand all felt the earthquakes.  Over 100 individuals remain unaccounted for in Thailand, while 10 confirmed deaths have occurred.  The United States Geological Survey (USGS) estimates that 10,000 people may have died in Myanmar.

This earthquake, which occurred at 11:50 AM on Friday, is thought to be the biggest to hit the area in 200 years and left Thailand and Myanmar in ruins.  The tremors caused several buildings in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, to collapse.

Further Aftershocks: 15 Shakes in 10 Hours

 The USGS reports that 14 more aftershocks, including one with a magnitude of 6.7, were detected within 10 hours of the original earthquake.

Continuous Rescue and Relief Activities

 Rescue efforts to rescue individuals buried behind debris are still underway.  The military regime in Myanmar has made a plea for outside assistance.  To aid with the recovery efforts, the Indian government has provided 15 tons of relief supplies, which include food, blankets, tents, medications, and solar lamps.
