Assam Police Detain Woman Amid Crackdown on Anti-National Remarks After Pahalgam Attack

Assam Police have detained a woman from Golaghat district, bringing the total number of arrests in the state to 16, as part of an ongoing crackdown on individuals allegedly making "controversial" or "anti-national" comments following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The woman, identified as Dadhichi Dimple (alias Dimple Baruah), was apprehended by the Crime Branch in Guwahati and later handed over to the Golaghat police for formal arrest.

The Pahalgam attack on April 22, which killed at least 26 people, mostly tourists, sparked widespread outrage across India. In response, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has ordered strict actions against social media posts perceived to be sympathetic to Pakistan or undermining national sentiment.

Along with Dimple Baruah, two other individuals, Tahib Ali and Bimal Mahato, have been detained for similar alleged offenses. CM Sarma has defended the arrests, including that of AIUDF legislator Aminul Islam, emphasizing that Assam will not tolerate any support or defense of Pakistan in connection with the Pahalgam attack.
