Union Home Minister Amit Shah welcomed the announcement by two Hurriyat groups, J-K People’s Movement and Democratic Political Movement, that they are severing ties with separatism. Shah credited the Modi government’s "unifying policies" for this shift, calling separatism in Kashmir a thing of the past. He urged all separatist groups in Jammu and Kashmir to abandon separatism permanently, emphasizing the government's vision of a developed and peaceful Bharat.

Earlier, the Centre banned two other Hurriyat Conference groups—the Awami Action Committee (AAC) and Jammu and Kashmir Ittihadul Muslimeen (JKIM)—for five years, accusing them of supporting terrorism and secessionist activities. In response, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq of the AAC criticized the move as part of a continued policy of "intimidation and disempowerment" in Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
