Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, stated on Thursday that each State should build a consistent anti-terrorism framework under the control of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in addition to taking a ruthless approach.
At the start of the two-day anti-terror conference that the NIA convened, Mr. Shah made remarks.
“A model anti-terrorism structure should be established under the purview of NIA, the hierarchy, structure, and standard operating procedure of investigation of all anti-terrorism agencies in all States should be made uniform for better coordination between Central and State agencies. All anti-terror agencies will have to adopt such a ruthless approach that new terrorist organisations cannot be formed,” he said.
“The task of NIA, ATS, and STF should not be limited to investigation but also to think out of the box, and take innovative measures to counter terrorism,” Mr. Shah said.
He continued by saying that over the past nine years, both federal and state agencies have effectively put a stop to all types of terrorism in the nation.
The Home Minister claimed that the Modi administration’s harsh choices in dealing with issues like cryptocurrency, hawala, terror funding, organised unlawful syndicates, and narco-terror connections have produced excellent outcomes. He continued, “More work needs to be done.”
According to Mr. Shah, the Centre, the States, their agencies, and inter-agency collaboration will need to think in both vertical and horizontal ways in order to combat terrorism.
The home minister claimed that in the previous five years, the government has created numerous terror-related database verticals. Mr. Shah emphasised that for the battle against terrorism to be effective, all State and Centre authorities must utilise the database in a multidimensional, AI-based manner.
Mr. Shah said that the database should be used for investigation, prosecution, prevention and action, while adding that terrorism has no boundaries, and that no State could face the challenges of terrorism alone.
