The Karnataka High Court on Friday granted bail to Kannada film star Darshan Thoogudeepa in the Renukaswamy murder case.
The court also granted bail to Darshan’s friend Pavithra Gowda and seven other people who are still being held in relation to the case.
On June 11 of this year, the actor was taken into custody on suspicion of murdering his admirer Renukaswamy on June 8 after sending obscene texts to Pavithra Gowda.
The actor had previously been housed at Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Jail, but he was moved to Ballari Central Jail when a picture of him lounging with some of the prisoners went viral.
Due to back problems, Darshan is currently in the hospital.
The corpse of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, who suffered several injuries, was found on June 9 next to a drain in Sumanahalli, Bengaluru.
According to investigations, Renukaswamy was kidnapped from Chitradurga and reportedly subjected to torture before to his demise.
Four people turned themselves in to the police after the murder was discovered, stating they were responsible for the killing because of a disagreement over money. But because of the contradictions in their claims, officials began to suspect a wider plot.
The actor Darshan, his accomplice Pavithra Gowda, and fifteen other people were involved in later investigations.
Darshan was taken into custody at Mysuru on June 11, 2024, and sent to Bengaluru to be questioned.
All suspects have been taken into custody and brought before the court by June 16.
