PVR INOX Ltd, a leading cinema chain, has introduced the “PVR INOX Passport,” a unique monthly movie subscription pass aimed at rejuvenating the film industry and encouraging more frequent visits to theaters. Starting from October 16, this subscription pass allows cinema-goers to watch up to 10 movies per month for just Rs 699. The offer is applicable from Monday to Thursday and does not cover premium offerings such as IMAX, Gold, LUXE, and Director’s Cut.
Gautam Dutta, co-CEO of PVR INOX Ltd, stated that they have been actively engaging with their customer base to understand their movie-watching habits. Many consumers expressed their love for the cinema experience but found it expensive to visit theaters regularly. This trend is not healthy for the film industry, especially for mid-level and smaller budget films.
Dutta explained that event films are becoming more prominent, while smaller films are being squeezed out. To address this issue and cater to consumer sentiment, they have introduced the movie subscription plan. PVR INOX recently also reduced food and beverage prices by 40% and introduced affordable food combos.
The movie subscription plan is intended to bring people back to cinemas, increase film consumption, support smaller films, and create a larger audience. Dutta emphasized that this initiative is not just a price promotion but a momentum shifter for the industry.
The target audience for this movie subscription offer includes students, housewives, and senior citizens—those who have more time but limited budget. The ‘PVR INOX Passport’ can be purchased for a minimum subscription period of three months through the cinema chain’s app or website. It’s non-transferrable and requires users to show a government identity proof at the cinema when redeeming their pass.
