Kangana Ranaut to be First Woman to Ignite Ravan Effigy at Delhi’s Lav Kush Ramleela

In a significant step towards gender equality, popular Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut is set to become the first woman to perform the symbolic Ravan Dahan at Delhi’s renowned Lav Kush Ramleela event on October 24.

The Lav Kush Ramleela, held annually at the historic Red Fort, has been graced by prominent figures, including former President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Bollywood stars like Ajay Devgn and John Abraham. Last year, Prabhas had the honor of igniting the effigy.

This decision to entrust Kangana Ranaut with the role carries profound meaning, as it aligns with the Women’s Reservation Bill, which was passed in September. The bill aims to secure 33% representation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, making a crucial stride towards gender equality.

Arjun Singh, the President of the Lav Kush Ramleela Committee of Delhi, emphasized the importance of women’s participation and equal rights, stating, “This year, we are breaking stereotypes by allowing a woman to perform the Ravan Dahan. Women, too, should have the right to end evil, and we are proud to have Kangana ji representing this change.”

Kangana shared her excitement and discussed her upcoming film, “Tejas,” in an Instagram video, slated for release this Friday. The film, directed by Sarvesh Mewara, features Kangana in the role of an Indian Air Force pilot.

The choice of Kangana Ranaut for this historical act symbolizes India’s evolving landscape of gender equality and a commitment to inclusivity. As the 50th year of Lav Kush Ramleela approaches, Kangana’s participation marks an inspiring step forward for women’s representation in traditional events.

Kangana Ranaut’s involvement in this age-old tradition as the first woman to ignite the Ravan effigy is a testament to India’s shifting dynamics, signifying progress toward gender equality. With the Women’s Reservation Bill opening doors, Kangana’s participation underscores the nation’s determination to create a more equitable and inclusive society.
