On Monday, the National Capital Region (NCR) reported “very poor” air quality in a number of its cities. High air quality index numbers were also recorded by a number of other cities.
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) listed the cities with the worst air quality as Greater Noida, Delhi, Faridabad, and Muzaffarnagar.
Here are the the top 10 cities with worst AQI as per the latest CPCB data:

As per the CPCB, the category ‘Good’ of the Air Quality Index (AQI) lies between 0-50, ‘Satisfactory’ between 51-100, ‘Moderate’ between 101-200, ‘Poor’ between 201-300, ‘Very Poor’ between 301-400 and ‘Severe’ between 401-500.
The AQI values for Greater Noida were 354, Faridabad, Uttar Pradesh, 322, Delhi, 313; Muzzafarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, 299; Bahadurgarh, Haryana, 284; and Manesar, 280. Bharatpur and Bhiwadi in Rajasthan have an AQI of 261.
Kurukshetra, in Haryana, recorded an AQI of 256. In contrast, the AQI scores for Gurugram, Meerut, Ghaziabad, and Karnal were 255, 253, and 243, respectively.
With the expectation that the air quality would deteriorate over the next several days, the subcommittee of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) activated the 11-point action plan in accordance with Stage-II of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) on Saturday.
