Shakib Al Hasan’s To Face Bangladesh-India World Cup Despite Injury

Bangladesh’s hopes in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 have hit a stumbling block with their star player and captain, Shakib Al Hasan, facing potential absence in the anticipated match against India on October 19.

Following an uplifting victory over Afghanistan, Bangladesh’s momentum was hampered by consecutive losses. Matters worsened as Shakib Al Hasan grappled with a left quadriceps injury during their clash against New Zealand. Despite the discomfort, the determined skipper stood his ground, completing his innings and bowling responsibilities. Post-match, Shakib was immediately taken for a diagnostic MRI scan to determine the injury’s severity.

Concerned for the well-being of their captain, Bangladesh’s team physio, Bayjedul Islam Khan, highlighted the importance of monitoring Shakib Al Hasan’s condition, especially with six pivotal matches still on the horizon.

Yet, hope floats. On Monday, Bangladesh’s team director, Khaled Mahmud, shed light on the situation. He conveyed Shakib’s current pain-free status, hinting at potential recovery. Khaled Mahmud shared, “Shakib Al Hasan’s report is pending. The pain seems to have diminished. We might soon discern the injury stage. Preliminary assessments suggest a minor tear, possibly grade one or two. The complete report might arrive today.”

The Bangladesh-India match isn’t merely another game in the tournament. For Bangladesh, it’s a chance to redeem themselves after recent setbacks. The spotlight, thus, focuses intensely on Shakib Al Hasan’s fitness and potential appearance. Being the World’s No.1 ODI all-rounder, Shakib’s tenacity was evident as he played through pain against New Zealand, and fans are eager to see if he repeats this feat against India.
