Shark Tank India has unveiled a new judge for its upcoming season, none other than Azhar Iqubal, the CEO of Inshorts. This announcement came shortly after the news that Oyo CEO Ritesh Agarwal and Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal would also be part of the show’s third season.
Azhar Iqubal, an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi, is the co-founder and CEO of Inshorts, a widely popular news aggregation application. At the age of 30, he embarked on this entrepreneurial journey by initially launching Inshorts as a Facebook page, in collaboration with Deepit Purkayastha and Anunay Arunav. The application was formally introduced in 2013, and after achieving considerable success, it expanded its availability to Apple iPhones in 2015.
Of particular note is Azhar Iqubal’s decision to drop out of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology to pursue his entrepreneurial ambitions. He attended IIT Delhi from 2009 to 2012, ultimately choosing the path of innovation and business development. In 2021, Inshorts successfully secured a funding round that valued the company at an impressive $550 million. Azhar Iqubal’s journey from an IIT dropout to the CEO of a multi-million dollar firm is an inspiring and noteworthy success story.
