Brazilian football legend and three-time Ballon d’Or winner, Ronaldinho, is set to make his first-ever visit to Kolkata in mid-October, just before the much-celebrated Durga Puja festival. This visit marks a significant moment for football enthusiasts in the city, as Kolkata has previously welcomed other football legends like Pele, Diego Maradona, and Lionel Messi.
Announcing his upcoming trip on his official Facebook page, the 43-year-old expressed his excitement about connecting with the city’s passionate football fans. Ronaldinho acknowledged Kolkata’s substantial Brazilian fanbase and eagerly anticipates meeting them during his stay.
During his visit, Ronaldinho plans to meet West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and present her with a special jersey. In a surprising twist, he also expressed a desire to explore the world of cricket and learn the sport from the iconic Sourav Ganguly, a revered figure in Kolkata and Indian cricket.
Acknowledging the popularity of cricket in the region, Ronaldinho stated, “I know cricket is very popular, and this time I want to learn cricket from Bengal’s ‘Dada’.” His visit will extend beyond sports, as he intends to participate in various sponsorship events, felicitation programs, and promote the beautiful game of football.
The Brazilian football legend is expected to arrive in Kolkata on October 16 and will spend two days in the city before heading to Dhaka. During his stay, Ronaldinho will not only participate in a charity football match but also engage with aspiring football players in a local football academy. Additionally, he will have the honor of unveiling Durga Puja pandals across the city, further solidifying his connection with the people of Kolkata.
With his visit, Ronaldinho aims to bring a touch of the Samba Magic to Kolkata this Durga Puja season and expressed his affection for the city with the words, “Ami tomader bhalo bhashi” (I love you all). Kolkata eagerly awaits the arrival of this football legend, ready to embrace him with open arms as they celebrate both football and the festive spirit of Durga Puja.
