Ministry of Education in association with EDCIL organizes Study In India workshop

The Ministry of Education’s Department of Higher Education, in collaboration with EDCIL, hosted a Study In India (SII) workshop today at the AICTE auditorium in New Delhi. The goal of the training was to familiarize all participants, including those from different Ministries and Departments, FRROs, Indian Missions Abroad, and Compliance Officers of Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs), with how the SII portal operates and their individual responsibilities for maintaining it.

In an endeavor to internationalize higher education, the portal was jointly unveiled on August 3, 2023 in New Delhi by Ministers of Education, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Dharmendra Pradhan and of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar.

Speaking at the event, Shri K. Sanjay Murthy, Secretary, Department of Higher Education, explained that the SII programme was started with the cooperation of the Ministries of Home Affairs and External Affairs in order to bring cohesive and coordinated actions for easing the process of regulatory actions for any student willing to study in India. He continued by saying that our institutions must set clear goals in order to achieve the goal of hosting at least 10 million students from throughout the world during the Amrit Kaal era.

Director of IIT Kanpur, Shri Abhay Karandikar, praised the leadership and efforts of the Ministries concerned, saying that this innovative project would successfully accomplish the goals of internationalizing higher education and gratifying students’ and learners’ ambitions.

Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of NETF, addressed the crowd and stated that the students will represent India abroad and promote it as the premier destination for higher education research.

Nearly 500 people attended the event, including FRROs virtually as well as representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Education, Indian missions abroad, and higher education institutes (HEIs) in India. India, which has the second-largest higher education system in the world, has produced some of the world’s brilliant minds.

By providing affordable, top-notch education, the SII programme hopes to establish India as the preferred study location. With 100,000 places accessible in undergraduate, postgraduate, doctorate, and other short-term programmes and a choice of more than 2,600 courses, it offers access to more than 500 elite educational institutions.
