With just three days remaining for the release of Shah Rukh Khan’s much-anticipated film, “Jawan,” expectations are soaring high in the Bollywood industry. Directed by Atlee, this action-packed entertainer is all set to hit theaters on September 7, 2023. Alongside Shah Rukh Khan, the film stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, and Sunil Grover, among others. “Jawan” has been certified U/A by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a runtime of 2 hours and 49 minutes.
Here are some key details about the film’s release:
Screen Count: “Jawan” is expected to make its debut on over 5000 screens across India. This massive release strategy is on par with Shah Rukh Khan’s previous blockbuster, “Pathaan,” which graced 5500 screens.
Advance Booking: The advance booking for “Jawan” opened on Friday and has witnessed exceptional enthusiasm at the ticket counters. As of Monday at 4 p.m., the film has already sold an impressive 2,59,000 tickets in three prominent national chains: PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis. Specifically, PVR sold 1,26,000 tickets, while Inox and Cinepolis collectively accounted for 87,000 and 46,000 tickets, respectively. The Miraj chain has also reported robust ticket sales, with over 23,000 tickets booked for the opening day. MovieMax, another multiplex chain, recorded 7000 tickets sold for the opening day. MovieTime, meanwhile, managed to sell approximately 5500 tickets. These numbers are remarkable and reflect the film’s massive popularity and near-record pace in advance bookings.
Advance Booking Records: “Jawan” aims to surpass the advance booking records set by “Pathaan” in the three national chains by Wednesday at 11.30 PM. With its impressive start, the film is already on track to surpass the advance bookings of films like “Mission Mangal” (2.71 Lakh), “Tiger Zinda Hai” (2.76 Lakh), “Adipurush” (2.85 Lakh), and “Sanju” (2.94 Lakh). If it manages to exceed 3 lakh pre-sales across these three chains, it will secure a place in the top 10 of all-time advance bookings. Additionally, even single-screen theaters in remote areas are reporting fast-filling and housefull shows, further indicating the film’s widespread appeal.
Release and Expectations: “Jawan” is targeting a massive opening of approximately Rs 60 crore nett in the Hindi language alone on Thursday. The all-language total in India is expected to reach the vicinity of Rs 65 to 70 crore, making it a groundbreaking debut. With Janmashtami being a holiday in major parts of the country, the film is likely to witness solid movement in advance bookings on Wednesday and may also attract walk-in audiences on the release day. “Jawan” is expected to perform exceptionally well in non-national chains and single-screen theaters, adding to its box office success.
