Flood Situation in Assam, Over 1.22 Lakh People Still Affected

Even though more than 1.22 lakh people are still struggling with the floods across seven districts, the situation in Assam improved significantly on Sunday, according to an official bulletin.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority’s (ASDMA) daily flood report, the floods in the districts of Barpeta, Chirang, Darrang, Golaghat, Kamrup Metropolitan, Morigaon, and Nagaon have affected more than 1,22,000 people.

More than 60,600 people are suffering in Darrang, followed by Golaghat (45,300) and Morigaon (6,500), according to the report.

Through Saturday, flooding in 13 districts had impacted about 2.43 lakh people. The number of fatalities stood at 18 with no fresh deaths recorded from anywhere in the state.

Seven relief camps and 17 relief distribution centres are being managed by the authorities in three districts, where 1,331 people have sought refuge.

According to the ASDMA, 8592.05 hectares of cropland have been damaged statewide, and 583 communities are currently under water.

In addition, Tinsukia, Dhubri, and Bongaigaon have all experienced significant erosion. Flood waters in Darrang and Morigaon have damaged embankments, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure.

According to ASDMA, the Brahmaputra is running over the danger threshold near Dhubri. More than 97,400 domestic animals and poultry are impacted statewide due to widespread floods.
