Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Electronics & IT, stated to the media yesterday that the government’s attempts to persuade major IT businesses to manufacture their products in India have been effective. Under the PLI 2.0 programme, about 40 applications were filed, many of them from important domestic and international IT leaders.
“This is good news that some of the biggest IT companies in the world, like Dell, HP, ASUS, and Acer, have applied for the PLI 2.0 scheme,” the minister added. This demonstrates their interest in computer manufacture in India.
India is the second-largest producer of smartphones in the world, according to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. In terms of IT hardware, including laptops, servers, and tablets, we aspire to reach the same level. This mission includes the PLI scheme. We are pleased that the sector has embraced the plan. We want the major IT firms to produce their goods in India and export them from this country. Jobs and investment opportunities will result from this.
Major IT firms like Dell and HP are taking part in the programme directly, whereas HPE, Lenovo, Acer, ASUS, and Thomson are taking part through EMS firms with manufacturing facilities in India. Domestic businesses like Padget (Dixon), VVDN, Netweb, Syrma, Opiemus, Sahasra, Neolync, Panache, and Sojo (Lava), among others, also support this.
The Minister participated in a number of Digital India Dialogues earlier this year, working alongside experts and business executives from the digital sector. To help India’s ecosystem for manufacturing IT hardware take off, he aggressively addressed their issues.
The government has worked closely with startups, businesses, and academia to create a robust IT hardware manufacturing ecosystem in India under the direction of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Our goal is to create a $300 billion electronics industry and a $1 trillion digital economy by 2026, starting from absolutely nothing before 2014.
An important undertaking for India is the PLI 2.0 IT hardware scheme, which was created with participation from the industry. Thanks to our swift digitalization of the economy, government, and public services, India is currently one of the electronics consumer markets with the quickest growth rates in the world, the Minister continued.
The PLI 2.0 IT hardware programme was approved by the government in May with a budget of Rs 17,000 crore, which is twice as much as the program’s budget for 2021. 75,000 professionals are expected to be directly employed as a result of this programme, and an additional Rs 2,430 crore will be invested, in addition to an additional Rs 3.35 lakh crore being produced.
