Karnataka Launches India’s Largest Women-Centric Money Transfer Initiative

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, spoke at the inauguration of the ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ programme launched by the Karnataka government on Wednesday in Mysuru, proclaiming that women were the backbone and pillar of the region.

The programme intends to provide 1.1 crore women who are the heads of their homes with monthly support of Rs 2,000.

The Congress MP added that women were the state’s strength and that they were responsible for its successes in the IT industry and other fields. They resemble tree roots in that respect. Although their contribution is unnoticed, they are the true cornerstone of the state.

Within 100 days of taking office, the Congress government, according to him, had fulfilled nearly all election promises. “We have made sure that women are empowered in the state.”

At the public event held on the grounds of Maharaja College, which was attended by tens of thousands of people, M Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and his deputy D K Shivakumar were all in attendance.

The “Gruha Lakshmi” scheme, which was announced with fanfare, is one of the five pre-election ‘guarantees’ of the Congress, which defeated the BJP in the May Assembly elections.

The CM had previously stated that his administration had already carried out three of the five “guarantees” (pre-poll promises): “Shakti,” “Gruha Jyothi,” and “Annabhagya,” noting that “Gruha Lakshmi” was the fourth.

For the current fiscal year, the government has set up Rs 17,500 crore for the ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ scheme.

The fifth guarantee, known as “Yuva Nidhi” (Youth Fund), guarantees to compensate unemployed graduates and diploma holders, respectively, Rs. 3000 and Rs. 1,500 per month if they are unable to find employment even after six months after passing the exam in the academic year 2022–2023. The programme will debut in December, according to officials.
