During a recent meeting, the Executive Council (EC) of Delhi University gave its approval to a number of significant decisions. The institution will start a PhD programme in fine arts beginning the coming academic year.
A one-time age relaxation for voting in student union elections has also been authorised by the EC. This choice grants a three-year age relaxation for both voting and running in the Delhi University Students’ Union elections in response to requests from numerous student unions.
“This year the maximum age limit has been increased from 22 years to 25 years for undergraduate students and 25 years to 28 years for postgraduate students,” the statement read.
Additionally, the Faculty of Music and Fine Arts received agreement during the conference to begin PhD programmes in the fine arts in the session 2023–2024.
To be qualified to continue in the programme and submit the dissertation or thesis, a PhD researcher must receive a minimum of 55 percent of the possible points, nine credits, or its equivalent grade on the UGC 7-point scale in the course work. According to the statement, each credit entails four hours of teaching.
At 76 places initially available, the new MBA (Business Analytics) curriculum is being launched by the Department of Commerce.
The National Cadet Corps-III and Vedic Mathematics-III courses will be implemented beginning with the academic year 2022–2023, according to the statement. The EC also adopted the proposals of the Value Addition Courses (VAC) Committee.
In addition to this, the creation of numerous committees was advised for the organisational design of the Research and Development Cell (RDC) of DU to support the culture of research. Five distinct committees will make up the RDC Advisory Committee, it was said.
The recommendations presented at the Academic Council (AC) meeting on August 11 were taken into consideration during the EC meeting. The Undergraduate Curriculum Framework-2022 (UGCF-2022)’s fourth, fifth, and sixth semester schedules for several departments and colleges were authorised. Additionally, according to UGCF-2022, the EC meeting Self Learning Material (SLM) was approved for use by School of Open Learning (SOL) students enrolled in the Department of Distance and Continuing Education.
The Council also resolved that an expert group will study the SLM of SOL in light of the recommendations made by the Academic Council members. The next meeting of the Academic Council will feature the presentation of the updated/revised SLM.
Additionally, it stated that the projected registration fee for SC/ST and PWBD students enrolled in the five-year Integrated Law Programme has been decreased from Rs. 1,200 to Rs. 1,000.
The papers based on the UGCF-2022’s Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC) were also accepted. These include Public health, hygiene, and nutrition, as well as Basics of Food Science and Nutrition, Basic Forensic Science, Basic Laboratory Techniques, and others.
After completing these courses, students will be able to find employment in a variety of fields, such as food and drug evaluation center’s, according to Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh. They will also be permitted to start their own firm, according to the statement.
Regarding the new five-year Integrated Law programmes’ fees, he claimed that the institution would continue to waive up to 90% of those costs for students from households income less than Rs 4 lakh per year.
He informed the EC that such students may also be eligible for aid under the Financial Support Scheme for Economically Weak Students.
