Yamuna Water Level Falls After Crossing Danger Mark

The Yamuna water level in Delhi fell on Wednesday morning after briefly breaching the danger barrier of 205.33 meters on Tuesday due to severe rain in the river’s higher catchment areas over the previous two days.

The water level at the Old Railway Bridge was 205.14 metres at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the Central Water Commission’s (CWC) website. Heavy rains in the river’s catchment area triggered flooding in various areas of the national capital a month earlier. On July 13, the Yamuna reached its highest-ever recorded flood level of 208.66 m.

In addition, the flow rate at the Hathnikund barrage in Haryana’s Yamunanagar district was 30,153 cusecs last evening.

According to ANI, heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh has resulted in a quick rise in river water level.

Rain is still wreaking havoc in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert’ for numerous portions of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, predicting ‘heavy to substantial rains’ during the next 24 hours.

According to the weather service, they’re alert’ will eventually be upgraded to an ‘orange alert.’ The hill states have seen a slew of disasters as a result of heavy rains. In Himachal Pradesh, the mortality toll from the recent rains has risen to 55. Landslides, flash floods, and cloudbursts are causing significant loss of life, property damage, and displacement of people.

Approximately 55 people have died in the state so far. The death toll could rise. Work on restoration is being done on a war footing. We are concentrating our efforts on rescuing persons who have become stranded. The 4-lane motorway between Chandigarh and Shimla, as well as other arterial routes, have been completed. “While the main roads have been opened, state roads will take some time to open,” said Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

Three individuals were killed and ten were missing in Rishikesh as a result of rain-related occurrences. On Monday, the city received the most precipitation in the country. As severe rains lashed the Uttarakhand town of Joshimath, new fractures appeared, escalating the level of dread among the state’s population.

On Monday, the major highways in the hill areas, including Kalka-Shimla, Kiratpur-Manali, Pathankot-Mandi, and Dharamshala-Shimla, remained closed.
