Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Electronics & IT, delivered a virtual address at the Digital India RISC-V (DIR-V) Symposium hosted by IIT Madras in Chennai. In his speech, he emphasized the government’s ambition for DIR-V, which currently intends to establish a viable RISC-V ecosystem through successful public-private partnerships and collaborations with leading academic institutions such as IIT Madras.
The DI—V program, which was initiated last year, seeks to strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem by developing sophisticated microprocessors. The Minister discussed how DIR-V will generate technological opportunities for all industry players and how it will play a critical role in accomplishing India’s technological aspirations.
Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Prime Minister of India, has declared the future of India’s techade as DIR-V, a program driven by innovation, functionality, and performance. The government is committed to making DIR-V the Indian ISA (Instruction Set Architecture). The Minister emphasized the importance of indigenous programs and the growing demand for silicon chips in the digitalization and new applications. As the internet becomes more complex with the emergence of 5G and 6G, new applications will be discovered, and DIR-V-based chips, devices, and systems will be seen in various digital products today.
Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar emphasized the importance of keeping DIR-V at the heart of India’s high-performance computing goals. He emphasized the importance of going beyond basic functionality and developing cutting-edge systems that set new global standards.
The ambition in the India techade spans three areas: automotive industrial space with IoT, mobility, and computing, including high-performance computing. The DIR-V community and ecosystem expect functional systems that are also cutting-edge, setting new benchmarks against other comparative systems and ISAs.
Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar praised the partnership between IIT Chennai and C-DAC, specifically in the context of the DIR-V program, highlighting how such collaborations create a hub for creativity and innovation. The one-day symposium showcased various tech innovations and saw participation from startups, students, and academicians from the industry.
