Mission Impossible 7, featuring Tom Cruise in the lead role, has taken the Indian box office by storm, solidifying its position as his biggest hit in the country. The film’s Sunday collections witnessed a remarkable 10% surge, pushing its overall earnings to a staggering Rs 63 crores.
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Mission Impossible 7 is the seventh installment in the popular franchise. The movie opened to a commendable Rs 12 crores on Wednesday and has continued to gain momentum, culminating in an impressive first Sunday collection of Rs 17 crores, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
With its current earnings, Mission Impossible 7 is on track to surpass the lifetime collection of the franchise’s sixth installment, which amassed around Rs 80 crores, within its first week. Furthermore, the film is set to become Tom Cruise’s highest-grossing movie in India, surpassing his previous records.
Mission Impossible 7’s success has outshone recent Hollywood releases in India. Movies like Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny debuted with Rs 2 crores, John Wick: Chapter 4 earned Rs 10 crores, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania made Rs 9 crores, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 garnered Rs 7.3 crores. The highest-grossing Hollywood film in India this year, Fast X, achieved lifetime earnings of Rs 108 crores. Tom Cruise’s previous release, Top Gun: Maverick, earned Rs 34 crores in the country.
Although Mission Impossible 7 is currently enjoying positive word-of-mouth and critical acclaim, its box office collections may face a setback next Friday when Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer releases. Nonetheless, the film’s extraordinary performance thus far solidifies its place as a monumental success and a testament to Tom Cruise’s enduring popularity among Indian audiences.
