Heavy Rains Devastate Kerala, Causing Disruptions and Loss of Life

The heavy rain continued to wreak havoc in Kerala on Thursday, causing landslides, landslips, power outages, and waterlogging throughout the state. After a brief reprieve, the intensity of rainfall intensified again, prompting the India Meteorological Department to issue a red alert in Kannur and Kasaragod districts. In addition, seven other districts have been placed on orange alert. A red alert indicates that heavy to extremely heavy rainfall of more than 20 cm is expected within 24 hours.

In response to the deteriorating situation, educational institutions in five districts declared a holiday, considering the prevailing conditions in Kerala. Sadly, six people lost their lives in rain-related incidents reported in Kottayam, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram, and Alappuzha districts. Numerous people were displaced from their homes due to uprooted trees and the flooding caused by rising river water. Consequently, they were compelled to seek refuge in relief camps for their safety.
