WhatsApp has announced a new measure to combat international call scams

This comes after the messaging app responded to reports of users falling victim to scams in which they receive calls from unknown international numbers, which can lead to unauthorized access to personal information or financial fraud. WhatsApp's move aims to minimize the risk of users being targeted by such scams, while still allowing them to make legitimate international calls through the app.

WhatsApp has beefed up its artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies to address the issue of consumers receiving spam calls from international numbers. “Our new enforcement will reduce the current calling rate by at least 50%,” stated a WhatsApp representative. “By leaving a missed call, bad actors entice curious users to call or message back, only to be scammed,” the representative continued.
