On Monday (local time), US President-elect Donald Trump issued a warning to Hamas regarding those it captured during the October 7 attack in Israel last year, stating that there would be “hell to pay” in the Middle East if the hostages in the Gaza Strip were not released before his inauguration on January 20 next year.
In their fatal attack on Israel in 2023, Hamas militants held over 250 individuals captive, including dual Israeli-American citizens. Nearly half of the 101 foreign and Israeli captives still held captive in Gaza are thought to be alive.
In his most explicit remarks on the hostages since his historic win in the Presidential Poll on November 5, Trump said, “Everybody is talking about the hostages who are being held so violently, inhumanely, and against the will of the entire World, in the Middle East – But it’s all talk, and no action! Please let this TRUTH serve to represent that if the hostages are not released prior to January 20, 2025, the date that I proudly assume Office as President of the United States, there will be ALL HELL TO PAY in the Middle East, and for those in charge who perpetrated these atrocities against Humanity.”
“Those responsible will be hit harder than anybody has been hit in the long and storied History of the United States of America. RELEASE THE HOSTAGES NOW!” he added in a strong-worded post.
“[If] the hostages are not released prior to January 20, 2025, the date that I proudly assume office as President of the United States, there will be ALL HELL TO PAY in the Middle East, and for those in charge who perpetrated these atrocities against Humanity.”
