Early on Tuesday, two low-intensity explosions shook Sector 26 in Chandigarh, one outside Seville, a well-known club owned by rapper Badshah, and the other next to De’Orra.
The first explosion happened outside of Seville at around 3:15 in the morning when two unidentified people on a motorbike are said to have set off an explosive device close to the club’s entrance.
But a few minutes later, there was a similar explosion outside the De’Orra Club, which likewise broke the glass windows.
When word of the explosions spread, police officers hurried to both locations. A forensic team was sent to assess the damage and gather evidence.
According to preliminary investigations, extortion is thought to have been the likely motivation behind the bombings, which were meant as an act of intimidation. Police officers are now reviewing the site’s CCTV video.
“We received information in the control room that someone here had a personal issue. When the investigating officer arrived at the spot, he found broken glass. The case is still at a preliminary stage and the forensic team is collecting evidence. We received the complaint at 3:25 am,” deputy superintendent of police, Dilbagh Singh Dhaliwal told reporters.
Singh said a case has been registered, and the police are waiting for the forensic team to collect evidence from the scene. He also denied having any information about whether Seville is owned by Badshah.
KK Malhotra, a 100-year-old retired principal from an institute in Himachal Pradesh, owned the property at number 575. Malhotra and his spouse barely survived the explosion since they had entered the home just before it happened and had been seated on the balcony only minutes before.
