UN Raises Alarms Over Iran’s Nuclear Program

Many countries, particularly those that support Israel, have accused Iran of utilizing its nuclear capabilities to develop nuclear weapons in the face of the imminent prospect of a full-scale conflict between Iran and Israel.

But according Iranian reports, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has denied these allegations, saying that its inspectors have not discovered any proof that Tehran was attempting to manufacture atomic weapons.

According to Tehran’s state-run IRNA news agency, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi reaffirmed to reporters on the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Change Summit in Baku, Azerbaijan, that international inspectors have not discovered any evidence that would imply Iran is attempting to develop nuclear weapons.

“That is this gap, this lack of confidence, which we should not allow to grow into a self-fulfilling prophecy of using nuclear facilities as targets,” the IAEA chief was quoted as saying as he expressed hope that his two-day trip to Tehran will help resolve the alleged safeguards issues with Iranian officials.

“There is no evidence to prove such allegations against the Islamic Republic,” Grossi said when asked whether the UN atomic watchdog is concerned about Iran developing nuclear weapons.

In order to meet with the Iranian president and director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Grossi left on Wednesday for a two-day visit to Tehran. The IAEA director stated earlier in a CNN interview that finding diplomatic solutions to the outstanding problems is the major reason for his journey to Iran, which is undoubtedly not the last one.
