Kangana Ranaut’s Remarks Spark Legal Controversy

Kangana Ranaut, an actor and BJP MP, got into additional problems after farmers protesting the now-scrapped agri laws in Delhi filed a complaint against her for making offensive statements about Mahatma Gandhi and the farmers.

On Tuesday, an MP-MLA court issued Kangana a notice in the same case.

According to Rama Shankar Sharma, a lawyer, the court has asked Ranaut for a response to his complaint and has scheduled the next hearing for November 28.

“I had filed a case in Agra MP MLA Court on September 11, 2024, against actress and MP from Mandi Kangana Ranaut. She had insulted crores of farmers of the country and also insulted father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi with her remarks,” he said while quoting media reports.

What Is the Case About?

On September 11, 2024, Advocate Ramashankar Sharma filed an application before the Special Court, MPMLA. Kangana Ranaut was accused of making an inappropriate speech on August 26, 2024, for farmers sitting on a dharna at the Delhi border.

Following this, on November 17, 2021, she made the comment “Begging freedom is not obtained by being slapped on the cheek,” mimicking Mahatma Gandhi’s nonviolent principle.

Meanwhile, Kangana is awaiting the release of her film ‘Emergency’, which digs into the life of Indira Gandhi, who declared a 21-month emergency from 1975 to 1977.

‘Emergency’, a film involving controversies and backlash from Sikh groups, has been passed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in October. Kangana Ranaut revealed the repercussions faced by the makers due to the film’s delayed release in an interview with ANI.

“I know how I made this film… I did not get any support from the film industry. It’s made on a huge budget. I along with Zee and other partners created Emergency, and now with the release delay, everyone is bearing a huge loss. Delay release is a loss for all. I think the Censor Board should take the responsibility to release this film at the earliest,” she said.
