CBSE Directs Schools to Update Names Under PM SHRI Scheme

A notice from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) encourages schools to apply online for a school name that ends in “PM SHRI.” As soon as the board reopens the online registration link, schools can register on the CBSE SARAS portal under the ‘Change in Name of School’ category.

For the 2025–2026 session, the CBSE SARAS portal is presently closed. When the connection is restored the next year, the schools will be able to submit their applications.

The board released the notification as it was receiving requests from the concerned schools for updating their respective school names for selection under the PM School for Rising India Scheme of the government.

Launched on September 7, 2022, the Prime Minister’s Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) program is an ambitious initiative of the Modi administration to provide pupils with a top-notch education and 21st-century skills to make them “future-ready.”

The flagship program, which will cost Rs 27,000 over five years and be funded by the Center and the states, will upgrade 14,500 schools nationwide to become “exemplar” institutions by demonstrating how the National Education Policy 2020 is being implemented.

Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs), as well as centrally administered state government-run schools, are to be transformed into “model” schools throughout India as part of the program.
