India Whitewashed Bangladesh by 3-0 Recording its Highest Total

The Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian cricket team won the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh by 3-0, defeating the visitors by 133 runs in the last T20I played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday (12 October 2024).

Sanju Samson was named ‘Player of the Match’, while Hardik Pandya won ‘Player of the Series’ award.

This was one of the highest winning margins for India in T20Is. They defeated New Zealand by 168 runs in Ahmedabad in 2023 and Ireland by 143 runs in Dublin in 2018. India’s victory makes it 10 wins in a row for the Suryakumar Yadav-led squad, as well as their seventh bilateral series win at home.

Chasing a massive target of 298 runs against India, Bangladesh could manage to score only 164/7 in 20 overs. No Batsmen other than Baring Towhid Hridoy (63*) and Litton Das (42), could score more than 15 runs.

For India, Ravi Bishnoi took three wickets, completing his 50-wicket T20I career. Mayank Yadav picked up two wickets, while Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy took one wicket each.

After choosing to bat against Bangladesh in Hyderabad, Indian batsmen smashed the opposition’s bowling and set a new record for the highest total scored in a T20I among full member ICC nations. India scored 297 runs losing six wickets in 20 overs.

During the innings, Indian batters hit 25 FOURS and 22 SIZES. In addition, Sanju Samson (111) got his first T20I century in just 40 deliveries, the fourth fastest by any international player and second fastest by any Indian player.

Suryakumar Yadav (75) became the second-fastest Indian batter to score 2500 runs in T20Is. He achieved this milestone in his 71st inning. Following this, Hardik Pandya (47 off 18 balls), and Riyan Parag (34 off 13 balls) destroyed the leftover Bangladesh bowling attack.

For Bangladesh, Tanzim Hasan Sakib took 3 wickets, while Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman and Mahmudullah picked one wicket each.

Speaking about the record breaking victory in the post-series presentation, Suryakumar said, “I think we have achieved a lot as a team. Most importantly, as I said at the start of the series, I want to have selfless cricketers in my team. We want to be a selfless team, and as Hardik said, we want to just enjoy each others’ performance on the field and off the field and spend as much time as possible, and that camaraderie is carrying on the field, and we’re having some fun.”

“The chat around the team has been like that. Gauti bhai (Gautam Gambhir) said the same thing at the start of the series and when we went to Sri Lanka as well: ‘No one is bigger than the team’. If you’re at 99 or 49 or anything, if you feel you’ve to hit the ball out of the park for the team, you have to hit it, and Sanju did the same thing. Happy for him,” he added.
