Prashant Kishor Slams Rahul Gandhi’s Quota Remark

Jan Suraaj chief Prashant Kishor on Thursday hit out at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi over remarks he made on a reservation. Kishor said that Gandhi favoured increasing quota a few months ago but is now talking about removing reservations.

“Rahul Gandhi himself does not know what he will say at any time,” Prashant Kishor said.

Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is on a visit to the US. While addressing students of Georgetown University, Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress would think of scrapping reservations when “India is a fair place”, which he said is not the case right now.

However, his remark has drawn a sharp reaction back home, with the BJP accusing him of being “anti-reservation”.

Prashant Kishor also attacked Gandhi for the statement, saying, “A few months ago, he was speaking in favour of the caste census and that reservation should be increased. Now, he has gone to America and is talking about removing reservations… Until the elections, Rahul Gandhi always said that caste census should be done and if needed, reservation should be increased, now why has he changed his statement, only his fellow Congress leaders will be able to tell better…”

Meanwhile, Congress had defended Rahul Gandhi’s remark, saying that there is no difference between his views and that of the architect of India’s Constitution B R Ambedkar on the issue of reservation.

“The Congress believes that as long as there is inequality in the society, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes are deprived, reservation should continue. Baba Saheb also had the same view,” senior Congress leader Harish Rawat said.
