Krishna Janmashtami 2024: Fasting Rules Revealed—Avoid These Common Mistakes

Janmashtami is an enormous event in which people prepare for Lord Krishna’s birth anniversary. People celebrate this day with considerable fanfare and express their appreciation to the universe’s protector. Janmashtami will be observed on Ashtami Tithi, or the eighth day of Krishna Paksha in the month Bhadrapada.

This day is going to be celebrated on August 26, 2024.

Janmashtami 2024 Fasting Rules: Avoid These Common Mistakes

  • Sankalpa (Pledge)

Start your fast with a sankalp, a serious commitment that declares your undying love for Lord Krishna. Recite the name of Lord Krishna all day long.

  • Clean the house

Early in the morning, devotees should clean the house, paying special attention to the puja area. Laddoo Gopal Ji and the Lord Krishna idol should be given a holy bath.

  • Satvik Bhojan

On Janmashtami, only eat Satvik (pure) cuisine. Steer clear of things like meat, onions, garlic, and alcohol as they are tamasic and inappropriate on this holy day.

  • Homemade Prasad

On Krishna Janmashtami, prepare prasad (offerings) at home. As offerings to Lord Krishna, devotees frequently prepare meals like Peda, Gheeya ki Lauj, Nariyal Gajak, Panjeeri and other milk-based sweets.

  • Non-Vegetarian Food

When fasting, abstain from all non-vegetarian food. During the Janmashtami fast, eating meat and other non-vegetarian foods is strictly forbidden.

  • Positive Atmosphere

On the day of the Puja, create an atmosphere of calm and joy at home. Be especially considerate to the elderly and don’t be harsh with anyone and do not disrespect anyone on this auspicious day.

  • Be Kind

Try to become kind with everyone. Lord Krishna always had a great affection for cows, hence treat them with kindness and be compassionate towards all animals and other living beings. It is important to always keep in mind that cruelty to any living being is wrong and should never be done. On Janmashtami, provide food and drink to animals to promote respect for all living things.
