Kamala Harris Surges Ahead of Trump: Leading in Key Swing States

According to the most recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, US Vice President and Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris now leads Republican presidential contender Donald Trump by five points in the battle for the November 5 US presidential election. The study, which was conducted between August 2 and 7, showed Harris with 42% support and Trump with 37%. She also leads Trump in seven swing states where the race was tight in the 2020 election.

This marks a two-point increase for Harris since the previous Reuters/Ipsos poll on July 22-23, which had her ahead by three points, 37% to 34%.

“The August Ipsos survey found more voters associated Trump than Harris with the word “patriot” – a regular part of Trump’s campaign speeches – as well as with “weird,” a word that Harris supporters have used to taunt Trump in recent weeks,” according to Reuters.

The across the nation poll of 2,045 American adults also revealed that independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr’s popularity has dropped to 4%, down from 10% in July.

Ipsos conducted the poll independently, with a margin of error of about 3 percentage points, according to Reuters.

Harris has a two-point lead in seven key states.

Kamala Harris entered the race on July 21, after President Joe Biden, 81, stopped his presidential candidacy and backed her following a terrible debate performance against Donald Trump on June 27 in Atlanta, Georgia. Following the debate, Democrats pressed Biden to resign from the race.

Harris formally became the Democratic presidential contender on August 6, and she picked Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.

In a second survey, Ipsos found Kamala Harris leading Donald Trump 42% to 40% in the seven swing states where the 2020 election was most closely contested: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Previously, when Joe Biden was running against Donald Trump, he trailed in six of these states, with just Wisconsin favoring the incumbent President Biden.

However, recent poll results indicate a substantial shift in the presidential campaign, with Harris gaining traction as the election approaches.
