Kamala Harris, the vice president, formally announced her candidacy for the US presidency on Saturday, July 27. She gave off the impression that her party would win.
In a post on X, Harris announced, “Today, I signed the forms officially declaring my candidacy for President of the United States.”
“I will work hard to earn every vote. And in November, our people-powered campaign will win,” she added.

The declaration comes after Joe Biden abruptly decided to back Harris’s presidential candidacy by withdrawing from the contest. Following his disastrous debate performance against former President Donald Trump, which raised questions about his age and mental capacity, Biden found himself under pressure to drop back to the top of the Democratic ticket.
In a recent endorsement, former President Barack Obama said that Harris would make “a fantastic President of the United States.”
Harris’ rise has been relatively smooth, despite tremendous political turmoil in the United States. A combination of favorable media coverage and positive energy has fueled her progress.
A new run of opinion polls done since Joe Biden suspended his presidential campaign last Sunday (July 21) show that Vice President Kamala Harris is closing the gap with Donald Trump. Three surveys released earlier this week even gave the vice president a higher approval rating than Trump, which had not happened to President Joe Biden in months.
Republicans, taken off guard by Biden’s unexpected exit from the campaign, have quickly refocused their efforts on the new probable Democratic nominee. Harris is still expected to be trailing Trump in a tight battle.
