Kargil Vijay Diwas: Emotional Tribute and PM Modi’s Stern Warning

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the Kargil war heroes at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, marking the 25th anniversary of India’s triumph over Pakistan in 1999. PM Modi, participating in the event of the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, has said that Pakistan has been repeatedly failing with its nefarious designs and has learned no lesson from its blunders.

Moreover, despite all such failures, Pakistan still counts on terrorism and proxy wars for remaining relevant. He warned all those who supported terrorism that they would never be successful and that India would strongly respond to every threat, while addressing the Kargil War Memorial.

He stood at a very significant location and addressed the patrons of terrorism directly that such evil designs shall be foiled with the full strength of Indian soldiers who would retaliate strongly to any enemy.

Modi also paid tributes at the Drass War Memorial in memory of the brave officers and soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation.

On July 26, 1999, the Indian Army announced that “Operation Vijay” was successfully over, as victory was achieved after nearly three months of relentless battles in the icy heights of Kargil in Ladakh. Since then, this day is celebrated as ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ to commemorate the victory of India over Pakistan in the war.

Modi continued to criticize the opposition for politicizing the Agnipath scheme—a reform brought into action by the Indian Army. He said people carry some misconceptions about the Army, like connecting it with saluting politicians and parades. For the government, he said, the Army denotes the trust of 1.4 billion Indians. He further defended Agnipath by saying that the scheme is meant to keep the Indian Army young and fit for war and accused many people of using this sensitive issue of national security for political gain and weakening of the Army due to corruption.
